Despite the obvious benefits of visiting tourists, the owners were unhappy with their uncontrolled movement through the territory. It’s hard to concentrate on day-to-day business when 250-300 people come every day wanting to see a local landmark. A compromise was reached when scheduled tours of the Hobbiton theme park began in English and other languages. They last an average of two hours. During this time, visitors have time to see the most interesting objects, visit the market and have a snack in the cafe.

Colorful ritual festivals, Hobbit Day, and weddings are held annually on the grounds. Often a visit to the Halfling Village is included as part of a comprehensive field trip to North Island.
