History and architecture of the circus

The history of the circus in Belarus began in the 19th century. Back in 1883 there was a circus of the Nikitin brothers. The performances were held on Cathedral Square (now Liberty Square). The wooden structure could seat up to 800 spectators. Since 1930, the circus-tent in the city park has given performances for 1,200 people at a time.

Now great circus shows are held in a wonderful building that opened in 1959. It was reconstructed from 2008 to 2010. The auditorium, foyer, checkroom – all re-equipped for the audience, only the bearing walls were not changed. In essence, this was not a restoration, but the creation of a new functional object. The style of the 1950s is reflected in certain interior details, primarily in the chandeliers, which have been partially preserved and partially recreated.
