Legends and beliefs associated with the stone of Aphrodite

There are two main versions of the tales of Aphrodite’s stone. According to one of them, the object arose in the place where Aphrodite emerged from the sea. Another version claims that Aphrodite and her lover Adonis held their meetings here.

According to the first legend, Aphrodite was born from the foam of the sea when Cronus cut off the fertile organs of her father Uranus and threw them into the sea. The water around Cyprus became frothy, and out of that froth was born the beautiful nymph, or the Cypriot goddess. Everywhere she went, flowers grew and everything was illuminated with divine light. It is said that if you swim near the rock where the goddess first set foot, you can look younger and prettier.

The second legend is that near the bay the goddess met her lover Adonis. According to myth, Aphrodite fell in love with Adonis when she saw him while hunting in the Cypriot forest. They spent time at Aphrodite Bay, enjoying the beauty of the sea and each other. It is believed that if you are lucky enough to find a stone in the shape of a heart, you will soon find love.

It is believed that the object brings good luck and helps in love affairs. People come here to ask a higher power to grant them happiness, love, and a long life.

The stone is a place of pilgrimage. It is especially popular with women who want to find the happiness of motherhood. It is believed that the goddess Aphrodite will help them in their desires if they come with reverence, a pure heart, and bring flowers.
